- texture – it is harder to get a smooth consistency pureeing meat than fruits and vegetables.
- metallic taste – you can try and conceal this by pureeing fruits such as pear or apple along with some vegetables into your meat purees.
Once your baby is ready for finger-food including meat in their diet becomes much easier. For example you can offer meatballs, meat strips, nuggets or goujons. Here is a recipe I gave Freddie for his tea this evening which went down a treat: Pork and Pear Meatballs.

Pork and Pear Meatballs
Makes: 10 meatballs
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
100g pork mince
1/2 medium pear
1 slice of wholemeal bread
100g vegetables of choice (I used some canned sweetcorn today)
1/2 small onion
Blend bread into breadcrumbs. Add grated vegetables and pear.
Fry off onions in a little oil until softened and then add to the blender and blend.
Add the pork and mix in or blend if your baby prefers smooth textures.
Shape the mince mixture into balls and roll in flour.
Brown in a frying pan before transferring into a baking tray and baking for 15 minutes at 190 C until cooked through.
Freddie ate 3! I served them with rice and carrots.
